Commentary

This document is a transcript of an authentic preceptum from the ducal period of the chancery of Benevento and contains mutilations and interpolations. The interpolations refer to the names of Prince Grimoald and Abbot John. According to Zielinski, the praeceptum may have been issued by Arechis and date back to 763, during the abbacy of John I (CDL VI/2, p. 156).

Il privilegio può essere datato o all'agosto 793 (e in tal caso emesso da Grimoaldo III) oppure all'agosto 808 (e in tal caso emesso da Grimoaldo IV). @PaolaMassa
