Commentary

Documento non datato. Il documento è edito anche da Gabotto, Barberis 1906, doc. 1, pp. 1-3 con attribuzione a Ottone III. Secondo questi ultimi editori il diploma se non interamente falso è certo interpolato, specialmente nei nomi di Pinerolo e di Fenile. Anche Cognasso 1969, p. 83, afferma genericamente che l'autorità temporale dei vescovi di Torino è «iniziata da diplomi di non sicura genuinità» e non inclue le corti di Pinerolo e di Fenile fra quelle dipendenti dalla Chiesa torinese. Secondo Casiraghi 1979 le osservazioni del Gabotto sembrano poco probanti, tuttavia non essendoci altri documenti che confermino esplicitamente la signoria vescovile nei luoghi di Pinerolo e Fenile il dubbio sulla loro interpolazione resta. Il diploma di Federico I al vescovo Carlo del 26 gennaio 1159 menziona la corte di Pinerolo «cum castello et districto» ma il diploma non sempre indica l'effettivo potere del vescovo su tutte le corti ivi elencate, poiché, come dimostrano vari documenti del tempo alcuni possedimenti attribuiti dall'imperatore al vescovo Carlo appartenevano in realtà ad altri enti.
